About the event
Join us for a talk by Dr. Marne Campbell as she explores the historic visits of W.E.B. Du Bois and Booker T. Washington to Los Angeles and the lasting impacts they had on the city’s Black community.
Dr. Marne L. Campbell is Professor and Chair of the Department of African American Studies at Loyola Marymount University. She received her PhD in History at UCLA and holds a Master’s in African American Studies. She won the Los Angeles City Historical Society Miriam Matthews Ethnic History Award for her book Making Black Los Angeles (UNC Press, 2016). She has also published essays in the Journal of Urban History, the Journal of American History, the American Studies Journal, and the Journal of African American History. Most recently, Marne worked with the California Department of Justice as a research consultant for the Task Force to Study Reparations for Slavery.
