About the event

Each participant will create a small art piece to take home. Class size is limited, and an RSVP is required. A $10 fee is due at the start of the session; materials are included.

Dawn Mendelson is a Community Teaching Artist, and has been creating mosaic and building communities through art for over two decades. She earned her B.A. and M.A. from California State University, Long Beach. After years of working in graphic design, an art store mosaic kit sparked a new creative direction and kindled a passion.  She is the Program Director of the nonprofit arts program Piece by Piece, serving the communities of South L. A. and Skid Row. Dawn also developed ArtWorksLBC, an arts wellness program in Long Beach, partnering with Rose Park Neighborhood Association. This program uses art as a conduit to building community and informing neighborhoods about critical issues and services. Her commitment to arts advocacy includes serving on several nonprofit boards and committees, as well as supporting and educating on a national level.
